ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Commerce was started in the year 2016 with 21 Students. The department prepares students to take up challenges in competitive scenarios in the field of accounting, finance, income tax and human resource development. Commerce is an important subject which is a branch of knowledge and is devoted to various techniques used in day to day life, like preparation of accounts analysis and interpretation of profit and losses. It is a science of learning from day to day economical routine happening in every part of the world. The subject provides tools for making decisions when conditions of uncertainty prevail. Hence Commerce is a tool and techniques used in almost all fields which are indispensable for people working in fields like Industry, business, management, economics, finance, insurance, education, Direct and Indirect taxation, communication, Banking ,Law, Logistics and supply chain, Entrepreneurial Development etc. For the last two decades, large amount of data has been handled with the help of computers and more sophisticated statistical techniques can be used in an effective manner to draw valid Business decisions making. Knowledge of different aspects of Commerce has become crucial in the present scenario. There is a continuous demand for commerce people in fields of Business education, industry, software, Market research, Banking and stock Market.

To provide students with an excellent career-oriented programme to meet global standard in the domain of Commerce and Accountancy.
MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT:
- To nurture holistic development of students with Employability Skills through Industry, Institution, Interaction and inculcate Social Responsibility in a Dynamic Corporate
- To enable the students to acquire competency to excel their skills in Commerce, Accounting and Finance
- Pioneering the students to align their thoughts to reach out to the global business practices

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES-UG (B.COM)
At the end of Under Graduate Programme (B.COM – BACHELOR OF COMMERCE) Students of Government Arts and Science College, perumbakkam
PSO1: Equip the graduates for in-depth knowledge in Accounting and Finance, Corporate Accounting, Decision Making, Cost analysis and familiarizes with Banking, Legal compliance, Management of Human resources and Practical Knowledge in Auditing to meet the industry expectations.
PSO2: Students can pursue Higher Education like M.COM, MBA, MSW and pursue professional courses such as CA, CMA, ACS, Law and Management courses.
PSO3: Students are being trained to instill entrepreneurial sprits with sound ethics and Morale and also to face the challenges in Entrepreneurial ventures
PSO4: Create strong base for life long and continuous learning through self-study
PSO5:Acquire the core Competencies of Business Acumen , develop analytical and critical thinking, effective team building, Communication Skill for better business Solutions
PSO6:Make students to become responsible tax payers, protecting the Business Environment by optimum utilization of resources applying waste management as a responsible citizen in global Scenario.

COURSE DETAILS
The duration of the course is three academic years:
- Each academic year is divided into two semesters. The first academic year comprises of the first and second semesters, the second academic year the third and fourth semesters, and the third academic year, the fifth and sixth
- The odd semesters consist of the period from June to November of each year and the even semesters from December to April of each There shall be not less than 90 working days for each semester.
